You are invited to:
The Mount Vernon District Democratic Committee Re-Organization Caucus South County Government Building 8350 Richmond Hwy – Room 221C December 7th @ 7:00 PM Message from 2010-11 MVDDC Chair Janet Myhre:
If you have been reading the headlines or listening to the news lately, you must be as disgusted as I am with the direction this country is headed, and not a little discouraged. When I hear the politicians talk about what “the American People” want, I often wonder who they are talking about ….. Certainly no one I know.
• I don’t think “the American People” want gridlock in Washington. • I don’t think “the American People” want our leaders to tell outright lies just to get re-elected. • I don’t think “the American People” want big business and greedy banks to make all the decisions on how we live our lives. That brings me to the crux of my discouragement. As just one person, how can I make any difference or have a say in the important decisions that are being made? I have come to the realization that I can’t …. By myself. The only way to make a difference is to join with like-minded people to make “We the People” heard. That’s what belonging to a political party, and joining in the decisions made by that party, is all about. If enough of us join together and work to bring the word to others, we CAN make a difference. At the grassroots level, the Mount Vernon District Democratic Committee (MVDDC) is your opportunity to be heard.
Every two years the Virginia Democrats re-organize throughout the state and invite people to join in our cause – to elect Democrats at all levels of government and assure that “We the People” are heard. What does joining the MVDDC mean?
• It means you will participate in the grass roots efforts to bring sanity back to our government (and to our lives.) • It means you will have a say in the policies of the Democratic Party. • It means you will work to bring information about our liberal ideas to others. • It means you will enjoy the company of like-minded activists. • It means you will help make the voice of “We the People” heard. We have a busy two years ahead of us with the 2012 and 2013 elections looming. If ever there was a time to get involved, it is now. We have seen the results of antipathy - the “do-nothing” Congress with which we are saddled after our poor showing in the 2010 election. Can you imagine what our world will look like if we allow the 2012 election to go the same way?
• We have policies to establish. • We have messages to get out. • We have fundraisers to organize. • We have people to identify and talk to. • We have letters to write. • We have leaders to elect. Attached is a Membership Application for the Fairfax County Democratic Committee (FCDC). All applications must be received by the chair no later than 5:00 PM, December 1. You may return your application by:
• Mail: Janet Myhre, Chair, MVDDC, 4012 Woodley Drive, Alexandria, VA 22309. • Email: chair@mvdemocrats.com, if paying by credit card. Make checks payable to FCDC. If you have a financial situation and are unable to pay, please contact Janet Myhre @ 703.254.6652. Join us at our re-organization caucus on December 7th, where we will elect our members and leadership.
• Be sure to check the activities in which you are most interested. • Your application will be voted on at the caucus and your filing status determined at that time. • In addition, the new MVDDC officers will be elected at this meeting. If you are interested in holding an office, or would like to suggest someone for an office, please list them on the application form. (See attached officer list.) • If you have questions or need information, call Janet Myhre at 703-254-6652 or Karen Stallings at 703-360-7825. Don’t be left wondering who those elusive “American People” are. Be part of the solution for making “We the People” heard. Plus the Latest From... |
