Delegate Stephen C. Shannon represents the 35th District in the Virginia House of Delegates, which includes a significant portion of the Tyson’s Corner business corridor. A former Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Fairfax County, Delegate Shannon serves as special counsel to the law firm of Odin, Feldman & Pittleman, P.C. and was named one of Virginia’s “Legal Elite” by Virginia Business magazine in both 2007 and 2008.

As a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, Steve serves on the House Committee on Appropriations, the House Committee on Education, and the House Committee on Agriculture, the Chesapeake and Natural Resources. In 2004, Steve worked closely with Governor Mark Warner to help win passage of the 2004 state budget, which led to Virginia being named the Best Managed State and the most pro-business by Governing and Forbes Magazines. Just last year, Steve was a leading voice in the passage of the 2008 Higher Education Bond Package, a bipartisan effort resulting in the largest capital investment in Virginia’s university and college infrastructure in recent history.

A leading advocate for child safety in the General Assembly, Steve and his wife Abby co-founded the Metropolitan Washington AMBER Alert system to recover abducted children. As a result of his work, he has received several awards from the law enforcement community and advocacy groups for his efforts as a legislator, a former prosecutor, and a citizen. In addition, Steve was appointed by Governor Tim Kaine to the Governor’s Commission on Sexual Violence, where he served as Chairman of the Committee on Treatment and Intervention.

Steve is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was a member of the Virginia Law Review.  He holds a graduate degree in public policy from Georgetown University and an undergraduate degree from Fairfield University.
