Well, if you didn't hear, on Tuesday, January, 9, 2008, I was elected Chairman of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee along with the Blue Team - a group of 10 top-notch Democratic activists from all around Fairfax County. My friend and opponent, Steve Bunn, the immediate past Chair of the Lee District Democratic Committee ran a very creative and aggressive campaign. The election was mentioned on several blogs including the following:

Fairwell Frank: Fairfax & Prince William Democratic Committees Choose New LeadershipYou may wonder why you did not receive any emails from me before the election. Well, only filed members could vote and I also felt uncomfortable promoting my campaign with the Committee's assets, especially after having been re-elected chair of the MVDDC, so I did not send out any emails, but instead relied upon a pure grassroots person-to-person effort in Mt. Vernon. The entire committee pulled together and 54 MVDDC members drove out to the Fairfax County Government Center which constitutes about 90% of our members who were not in Richmond or out of town. What made my election possible was all of YOUR support and hard work which has made Mt. Vernon shine for the last four years.
If you would like to watch my speech in which I talked about all of our success in Mt. Vernon, you can watch it here:
I am very excited about what the future holds for the Fairfax County Democratic Committee.
I am also excited about what the future holds in Mt. Vernon. We have built a terrific group of activists in Mt. Vernon who get things done and will continue to get things done in the future.
However, I would be less than candid if I did not say that I did not feel some regret in doing this. The MVDDC has really found some awesome volunteers in the last four years, and together we have raised the bar. Chairing the Mt. Vernon District Democratic Committee has been the funnest four years of my political activism in my life (the scary thing is that at this stage that constitutes 11% of my life), and I was really looking forward to pulling out all of the stops in 2008 and 2009 as we try to recapture the Virginia House of Delegates.
However, the more I reflected on it, the more I decided that it was the right thing to do. I feel like these next two years could be the best two years to build the Democratic Party in generations. It's time to step up to the plate.
Thank you for all you have done and please stand with me as we turn Fairfax Blue, recapture the Presidency, work towards two Democratic Senators for the first time since 1966, and capturing all three of Fairfax County's congressional seats.
