Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, Democrats won
big in Mt. Vernon District on Election Day, Nov. 8, 2011. Supervisor Gerry Hyland won easily as did School
Board member Dan Storck. The three Democratic-endorsed at-large school board
candidates won as well. Adam Ebbin is our newest state senator with 64% of the vote and
our other Democratic senators won re-election: Toddy Puller (55%), George
Barker (53%), David Marsden (54%), and Dick Saslaw (62%). In the House,
Dave Englin won with 94%, Vivian Watts with 77%, Mark Sickles with 99%, and
Scott Surovell with 58%. Jack Dobbyn put up a fight against Republican
Del. Dave Albo, pulling 38% of the vote.
Surovell and Puller, who had been targeted by state Republicans,
celebrated after the election with supporters at the Polo Grill in Lorton. They
thanked supporters and staff for their hard work and dedication to keeping Mt.
Vernon blue.
